Ayurveda is an ancient medical system, a way of life that, through knowledge of oneself, leads to balance and self-healing. In Sanskrit, the word Ayurveda consists of two words: “Ayush” is life and “Veda” is knowledge. Thus, Ayurveda can be defined as an extensive system of knowledge about life, covering every aspect of our existence.
Ayurveda is the search for balance between body and mind, life in harmony with nature, self-knowledge and the possibility of continuous development.
Ayurveda focuses on our daily habits, especially emphasizing the essence of the morning hours, because it is the beginning of the day that influences our subsequent well-being and performance. Let's try to make a daily schedule according to Ayurvedic rituals.
Day according to Ayurvedic recommendations.
Ayurveda recommends waking up daily before 6 am, and preferably about an hour and a half before sunrise (in summer it is especially difficult to do, considering that the sun rises before 5). This is the best time for self-development exercises: meditation, yoga practice, conscious breathing exercises. At this time, we feel rested after sleep. In addition, the street is still quiet, calm and cool, and it also affects our internal state.
Rinse the mouth with oil
Going to the bathroom, start by rinsing your mouth with vegetable oil for 10-15 minutes. Then rinse your mouth twice with warm water, brush your teeth and tongue. Tip: Use extra virgin rinse, preferably coconut, sesame or sunflower oil.
Rinse your face with cool water. Wash your nose and ears thoroughly and carefully. Ayurveda believes that our nose is the gate of the brain, so care should be taken about its hygiene and hydration. For this purpose, a special device is used - jala-neti (it can be purchased online). Add 1 teaspoon of salt to about half a liter of warm water and with help of neti pour liquid through each nostril for about 15 seconds.
Start the day with a glass of warm water with lemon, which will stimulate the gastrointestinal tract, cleanse the body of toxins. It is also good to add extruded through a press or finely chopped fresh ginger root.
Home spa and shower
Abhyanga, or massage with sesame oil - soothes the nervous system, helps to cleanse the body of toxins, positively effects the skin. You do not need to be a specialist, just make movements that give you pleasure. 5 minutes will be enough to feel a surge of energy and gentle relaxation. The next step is water treatment. Water should not be a comfortable temperature. Do not use any chemicals (after the massage with sesame oil there is no need to rub in a moisturizing lotion).
The fragrance has incredible strength. Use your favorite scent to stimulate the senses. This may be a few drops of essential oil (amber, sandalwood, orange, pine, lemon) or light haze. In the early morning, avoid strong odors.
Meditation and yoga
Ayurveda recommends moderate exercise in the morning. It is not recommended to start the day with intense workouts that require a lot of effort. Therefore, the practice of meditation and yoga are perfect. 10 minutes of training is enough to feel their beneficial effect on your well-being and energy level.
Breakfast is an important meal, but Ayurveda does not recommend it too much. Breakfast should be light, nutritious and hearty, consisting of natural, healthy products.
Take time to stay in the sun. The sun produces vitamin D, which is essential for life and well-being. If it is difficult to find free time for a walk, associate any activity with outdoor activities, such as lunch in the fresh air.
Avert your eyes from the computer or phone screen, close your eyes, take a deep breath and direct all your attention inside. Try to associate this short meditation with a stay in the open air.
Lunch is recommended between 12 and 1 am. Ayurveda recommends it to be a rich meal during the day, since it is considered that at this time the metabolism works best. Do not get up immediately after eating.
It is best to eat a light dinner about 3 hours before bedtime. Ayurveda recommends light and nourishing warm soups. Try to maintain a 12-hour break between dinner and breakfast.
It is best to fall asleep until 22:30, and wake up at about the same time. Duration of sleep and its quality is important. Massage of the feet before bedtime promotes deep relaxation of the whole body. In a favorite cream, you can add a few drops of lavender essential oil, which will have a calming effect.
Naturally, to develop a habit for such a schedule is not an easy task ...But at least once a month, you can select a day on which, without haste, you can take care of yourself only. If you feel that it is time to change something, but it is difficult to find time for all the recommendations of Ayurveda, choose one recommendation and practice it every day until it becomes a habit. Start with small changes and gradually add new. This is the healthiest way to change our lives.
