What Is the Use of Dried Fruits?

16.11.2018

Even in the ancient time, dried fruits have gained the long-lasting glory of being a valuable source of usefulness for a person, and at the same time they have firmly established themselves in the daily ration, that we now take for granted. Long ago  apples and pears were dried on the stoves, which, by the way, were used by the people for the same purpose as today's chewing gum.

Then began to be detected with remarkable regularity the diuretic and anti-cold abilities of the pear. Later, when scientific explanations began to be given to all the healing functions, a considerable amount of useful elements, such as fiber, vitamins C, B1, PP, pro-vitamin A, iodine and sugar were found in this dried fruit.

Side by side with the pears were being dried apples. They were also chewed at leisure, but not only to bring colors to gray everyday life, but also to heal the nervous system and eyesight. At the same time, dried apples became a favorite feminine food, improving the condition of the skin, nails and hair. And this knowledge, being passed on from generation to generation, was supported not by the chemical terminology, but by personal "grandma's" experience. Over time, of course, this knowledge has been scientifically confirmed - dried apples are rich in nutrients and vitamins: organic acids, glucose, fructose, sucrose, mineral salts, vitamins A, B and C, essential oils, and they also contain boron needed for brain work. By the way, all these substances are even more active in a dried fruit than in fresh one, because after removing water, they are in an active and concentrated state.

What is more, this is a real finding for sweet teeth, especially for those who lose weight, because many of the dried fruits have low calorie content but, at the same time, they are 5 times sweeter than fresh berries and fruits. The disadvantage is only in the fact that during drying the fruit is treated with sulfuric acid and gas, which can give the opposite from the beneficial effect, if they are not soaked for 5-10 minutes and not thoroughly rinsed.

Dried fruits are the most valuable source of beneficial vitamins and minerals. They contain magnesium, which normalizes blood pressure, iron, providing organs with oxygenation, fiber, which normalizes the digestive tract, calcium, strengthening hair and nails, etc. Many of the dried fruits are familiar to us, but let's look at their properties, thanks to which they have been valued by the people for thousands of years.

Dried apricots contain useful macro- and microelements: vitamins B1, B2, B12, B5, P, ascorbic, malic and citric acids, potassium and iron. Also, scientists have proven that the daily use of dried apricots reduces the risk of tumors. They are recommended for the usage in the case of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and hypertension.

Prunes are used for the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases. Due to the fact that it is rich in pectin, fiber, iodine, vitamins A, B and C, as well as antioxidants, it is the best antidepressant, a doctor for the skin and cardiovascular system. By the way, prunes are useful only when  they are black in color and do not taste bitter, otherwise, it is simply dried fruit, processed with glycerin, which can only harm.

Raisins are another antidepressant recommended by the doctors that perfectly treat the nervous system. Due to the content of calcium, phosphorus, sugar, magnesium, pectin and many other useful substances, raisins also help the heart, strengthening it. However, doctors do not recommend overeat raisins, because raisins are rich in carbohydrates and sugars.

Dates are also contraindicated for people with the above problems, because they contain as much as 70% sugar. If you do not belong to this group, then this “fruit” is allowed for you. It can not only elevate your mood, but also relieve fatigue, strengthen the immune system, normalize the work of digestion and lungs. Dates are simply necessary for people with  physical load, because they contain calcium, magnesium, sodium, iron, etc.

Figs are also in the number of high-calorie delicacies. They contain a lot of sugar, fat, protein, pectin, vitamins and fiber, which improves the digestive system. In some countries, figs are used even for the prevention and control of cancer, because they contain substances that fight a tumor and prevent its growth.
