8 things that harm the immune system

If you want to maintain the immune system in good condition, you should think about your habits.

1. The lack of sleep

When you sleep, the part of the immune system that is responsible for learning how to cope with bacteria and viruses is activated. If you do not get enough sleep, the immune system doesn’t work so effective. To maintain good immunity, you should sleep at least 7-8 hours a day.

2. Sedentary lifestyle

The lack of physical activity worsens the immune system. Those who rarely do sports suffer from respiratory illnesses on average 42% longer, than physically active people. Try to perform at least a few exercises daily.

3. Loneliness

When you spend a lot of time alone, you increase the level of norepinephrine. In crisis situations, this hormone is responsible for the generation of white blood cells, which help the wounds to tighten. However, if the level of norepinephrine for a long time exceeds the norm, it starts blocking part of the immune system and makes you more susceptible to infectious diseases.

4.  Constant stress

If you suffer from stress for a long time, your immune system starts to work worse. For example, people in a state of stress have significantly higher chances of catching a cold.

5. Saturated fats

Regular consumption of saturated fats overloads the immune system and increases the risk of inflammation. Replace harmful fats with more useful ones. For example, give up pork and beef in favor of salmon and tuna.

6. Alcohol

Regular use of alcohol reduces the effectiveness of the fight of white blood cells with viruses and infections. Even a single use of alcohol in large quantities reduces the immunity for a day.

7. Weak immunity of relatives

When people live together for a long time, their immune systems eventually become similar. This is partly due to common habits. If your loved ones have weak immunity, pay attention to your own. Perhaps you should change your way of life.

8.  Antibiotics

Use antibiotics only in extreme cases. They destroy any interaction between your immune system and bacteria. Therefore, antibiotics help you cope faster with the disease, but after recovery, your immune system is more vulnerable than before they are consumed.
