GROW!

What is the essence of this coaching model? What is it like?

The GROW model is a logical sequence in asking questions.

Let us remind you about the abbreviation:

G - goal (what do we want to achieve?)

R - reality (what is at the moment?)

O - options (what are the options / possible ways to achieve the desired)

W - way & will - path and intention (which option do I choose, what is the specific action plan?)

WORK FOR THE PURPOSE

First we ask questions at the first stage of the coaching model (Goal): we clarify the "subject" for ourselves - with what we want to understand?

Paraphrasing this question, we get:

- What problem is important for you to solve?

- What would I like to do?

Then we go a little deeper:

• Why is it important to do this?

• How would you define this goal?

• Is there anything that could be added to this formulation?

• How much does this inspire you?

• What additional benefits will you receive as a result of achieving this goal?

• What are the disadvantages of not achieving it?

• By what criteria can you judge whether the goal is achieved or not?

• Is this goal within your area of competence and control?

• How would you rate your confidence in achieving this goal on a 10-point scale?

These are the main questions at the first stage. They can be rephrased and changed depending on the context.

The main task at this stage is to concretely clarify for ourselves the "destination", the desired point "B", to which we must come from the "current state" - from point A.

REALITY OR CURRENT POSITION OF THINGS

After all, as we sorted out point "B", it's time to look at the current situation. At this stage it is very important for us to understand: what is happening now; That can interfere, become a barrier to the goal; And also what resources are available to achieve it.

OPPORTUNITIES AND LIMITATIONS OF THE MODEL

This list of coaching questions almost perfectly works in the business context when it comes to goals and tasks at work. When we work in the company, there are already identified priorities, there are developed "top" business plans and they need to be implemented.

Using this "battery" of questions helps to clearly articulate your goals / objectives and set a plan for achieving them.

In non-working, in a "personal" context, this model can also be used for simple purposes and tasks for which you do not have internal resistance.

For example, you are internally ready to repair an apartment and just want to clarify for yourself how to effectively implement this "project".

In those issues that you have not solved for years - deal with bad habits, "get married", etc. - this model can lead you to a sense of "impasse".

Yes Yes. Exactly. You can sit down, honestly answer all questions, even draw up a plan of action, but ... go nowhere and not move ...

In the life of every person there are their "pain points", which can not be solved in a one-hour session of conversation with themselves or by an expert.

For "dismantlings" with such "tricky" tasks, you need either other tools or the help of a professional who owns these tools.
