Breathing meditation: 5 simple steps
You are probably interested in the difference between respiratory and any other meditation?
Good question. When it comes to respiratory meditation, it is usually meant that it is the breath that serves as a means for immersion in the meditative state. Other such meaning includes visualization, repetition of the mantra, special music for meditation, such as Omharmonic, focusing on the object, for example, on a flame or a container with water, or even focusing on a particular area of your body.
5 Steps to Respiratory Meditation
1. The right place, the right time
The first step to effective breathing meditation - as for any other meditation - is to find a place where no one will disturb you. It is best to use a quiet place.
2. Do not slouch
During meditation, it is best to keep your back straight, but this does not mean that you need to cross your legs like a yogi. It is important that you are comfortable and you are not distracted, for example, on discomfort in the knee or buttocks.
3. Prepare for meditation
Preparation for meditation consists of defocusing attention. Let your eyes relax. You can close them partially or completely. Now, make three slow, deep breaths, breathing in your nose and breathing out your mouth. As you inhale, feel your lungs as best as possible and hold your breath for a few seconds. Exhaling, imagine that you exhale all the tension, excitement and extraneous thoughts.
4. Breathe lightly
After three relaxing breaths, stop controlling breathing. Concentrate on the sensations that arise when breathing. You can notice how the air tickles your nostrils, or like a diaphragm, and the shoulders rise slightly, then drop slightly.
5. Difficulties with concentration and how to deal with it
When you first try to engage in respiratory meditation, it is likely that your mind will be constantly distracted. Also, you may notice that you are analyzing the emerging sensations. The more you practice, the easier it will be for you to get. As a result, you will feel that your mind is not distracted by anything and is not interfered with by any thoughts, disturbances or inconveniences.
